Screen Production Weekly Exercises

In the screen production courses, I was required to complete a certain number of weekly exercises where, in groups, we had to produce a short film following certain criteria.

We had around 90 minutes to storyboard and film each of these projects.

Screen Production 3

Exercise 1

The Convenience

For this exercise we were tasked with writing, storyboarding and filming a comedy short film based off a pitch which we received the previous week.

I am very happy with how this turned out as we put a lot of time and effort into it. The film flows coherently and tells a full story. My favorite aspect of this short film is the use of absurd humor, such as the use of the same actress for every character other then the protagonist with one exception. The callback of the “convenience” near the end also works really well and ties the film together. However I still believe this film could be improved with some establishing shots mapping out the location as well as a longer build up to the final shot.

Exercise 2

The Librarian Short Film

For this exercise, we were tasked with creating a single location film using 12 different shots

Overall I am very happy with how this film turned out as, even though we had around 90 minutes to completely write and film it, it flows coherently, tells a full story and incorporates humors

Exercise 3

Intercut Interviews

In groups we were tasked with intercutting 3 separate interviews together to create a single engaging video which shows the best parts of each interview.

While I am happy with the editing and the final product, I believe could be improved substantially with a more interesting location, more interviews and a color grade.

Exercise 4

Chase Sequence

For this exercise, in groups, we were tasked with creating a chase sequence which spanned a large location.

Overall I am happy with how this turned out with the limited time we had to create it. However this film could definitely be improved with better establishing shots to map out the location, a color grade as well as a proper ending.

Exercise 5

Poker Game Exercise

For this exercise we were tasked with creating a short film set around a game of cards.

With the limited time we had to film this, I believe my group did a good job however a big issue with this film is the lack of a script and shot list which caused many issues with dialogue and shot choreography when editing. Overall with more time, I am confident I could create a far superior version of this film.

Screen Production 2

This is the collection of all short films I created in Screen Production 2, including weekly tasks and my major assignment.

Week 1

In a group of 4, we were tasked with creating a 1 minute short film that includes flash backs.

Week 2

In a group of 4, we were tasked with creating a 1 minute short film with a story that centers around one image. We also had to use a different shot type for every shot. I was the camera operator and edited this in Premiere Pro.

Week 3

In a group of 4, we were tasked with creating a 2 minute stalker style film.
